Getting involved

So I'm a med student currently, but I did piano the whole duration of school. I went to a lot of competitions and sometimes maybe concerts and faired pretty well. I finished music school around 4 years ago, and picked it back up 3 years after. A lot of people form my high school were trying to get me to play at local events with them, and I did take part in like 2 of them but I really didn't want that back then for some reason and now I regret not taking the chance to get into the local scene. A lot of people are recommending that I should get involved, but right now I really don't know how to. Any tips?
