Removing cork from wall?

Any tips on removing cork from walls? We bought a house with the walls of the stairwell lined in cork. It's not ugly, but it's not the style we want (besides, it's damaged in places). I started removing it but it's going incredibly slow. Not to mention the glue residue. Any tips on losening the glue? I tried a glue gun but that does not seem to make a big difference.
