What to expect from beginner ceramics class?!

I’ve never thrown on a pottery wheel… don’t even know how to word it lol. I’m taking a beginner class and wondering what to expect. I know it’ll be difficult… but how difficult? And do you think we’ll paint the pieces we create before throwing them in the kiln? Wondering if I’ll be taking home gray pieces. Thanks!
