yasuke retainer or samurai

I'm looking at historical sources that say he was a retainer not a samurai the difference being one takes care of the samurais equipment and serves him like a ward to knights but I'm interested in finding a source that labels yasuke a samurai because I want to actually read about him and learn real history before the upcoming release of ac shadows
